Any advice on tank bags?

Postby Chadw00 » Wed Jun 23, 2010 8:24 pm

I am wanting to get a tank bag and was wondering if anyone had some advice for me. I was looking at the cortech 14 liter magnetic tank bag but not sold on it yet.

The base of my Oxford Sports rubbed the tank a little. I glued sections of a soft duster to the base with EvoStick. Has no effect on the magnetism and has protected the paintwork.

I have some great advise!!!!!

Make sure that when you lay it down on your desk at work....there aren't any paperclips.
I got home from work, and realized a paperclip stuck to the bottom. It put a nice scratch in it.

I've had good luck with Cortech soft luggage; I had a Cortech Super Mini that worked quite well. My current bag is a Joe Rocket Manta, which is very compact and holds just my need-to-have-at-hand shizz, and has a few pockets to keep things separate. It doesn't have the map pocket, however, which the Cortech does.

The 14L is pretty big for a little bike like the Ninja, IMO; I'd think the Super Mini would be a better fit. This is what the Manta looks like. BTW, I always brush off the bottom of a tank bag before putting it on. They do tend to collect crud.

If you are interested in a Joe Rocket Manta bag in black, I have one I will sell for $25.00 + shipping. A bit dusty from being in the garage but in 98% condition. Reason for selling new bike has a fiberglass tank.

Unless you find someone who has used the exact bag you're looking to buy, make sure you're able to try the bag on the bike before you buy it, or that you can return the bag easily. The 650 has a very odd tank shape, and not every bag is going to fit well.

I have a small Cortech bag that fits decently, but I don't remember what the actual name of the model is, unfortunately.
