Diesel Turbo on EX650R (donor Volkswagen 1.9TDi)

Postby shuka » Thu Apr 05, 2012 12:17 am

Hi all
I'm new on forum
I want to put Turbo on my bike to add extra 30-40HP
like this http://www.kawiforums.com/ninja-650r-er ... x650r.html
I have (donor) turbo from VW 1.9TDI
it's really tiny
Image
also have some bent (donor) exhaust headers
have PC III USB
also have Leo Vince GP style exhaust
what do you think about it?
does diesel turbo works on my bike?
how much HP will it add?

Does not seem like the odds for success are good. But the initial price is sure cheap. There is quite a bit of research and engineering that goes in to a turbo- gas flow and speed, tube and impeller size, etc., etc. Right off the top, a turbo intended to match the flow for an engine almost 3 times the cc of the 650 would exaggerate the "turbo lag" effect to the point of not working at all. But hey, if you've time and energy, you could maybe sleeve it down, try it out, and maybe stumble on something that works fairly well and is dirt cheap. I was looking for a cheap exhaust for my 650, found a car exhaust can that fit, cost $28 shipped, bought a few parts to mount it- it worked very well indeed. Did not gain any power, did not lose any either, and the sound was deeper and better than any of the name brands I heard. Like my old friend Bucky, once middleweight boxing champ of Tehachapi State Prison says, "Even a garbage can gets a steak once in a while".

Hell give it a shot, just make sure you keep enough parts handy to return to stock if it turns out to be a huge fail...

Like Varment says, keep the stock parts. I'm remembering that usually you to have run lower compression (new pistons) and increase cooling system power (bigger radiator?) among other things, to succesfully run a turbo. And start with a low boost to see just how hot it runs.

It will have really bad turbo spool up lag, prob won't really get spinning till 7k rpm and it won't produce shit for pressure.

Gas and Diesel turbo's have different impeller ratios. You need something like a G13 or a T28, heck those are likely to big. You need something small like out of a Chevy Turbo Sprint or a Dodge Colt Turbo.

stock injectors were replaced via more flow injectors from Mitsubishi Evo
also want to put on it tiny intercooler
thinking also about water/Alcohool injection..
first start on a turbo

Might be able to use http://www.avamc.se/produkter/product/er6-turbo/ these guys for a little bit of advice. They are, or were for this projekt, using a tripleK K03 turbo, which is similar to the Passat turbo. 1.8l or so, if I remeber correctly.

Either way, do it. It sounds bitchin.

I'd like to see this too, that cute little turbo looks a lot like the one the Swedes used on theres, size wise anyhow. That would be a fun ride, even crippled I would do it.
