Got a ride in on Saturday - dry, sunny and 26F. Snowed again on Sunday.

Today it's a little warmer - about 36F, but pissing down, but as I haven't ridden since Saturday I used the bike instead of the car.

Another month should see the end of it here.

i ride everyday here in New Orleans, but i'm sick of this :f rain!! its been raining every 2-3 days here this winter. that coupled with temps in the mid 30's to low 40's temps (yeah i know it's not freezing or snowing, blah, blah, blah. that's why i don't live in places where it snows) makes for miserable riding, just to get to work.
hell, the month of december broke the all time record for rainfall in a month at over 26 inches.

Haha 26" of rain in a month??? Thats more precipitation than we get where I live in two years lol. If it weren't for mountain snow pack this place would be a desert.

You must be stationed at Scott. I'm actually on the same side of the river as you, I ride by Scott all the time.

Thankfully most of the snow they were calling for missed us. Of course, now they're calling for more snow on Monday and another blast of arctic air after that. It really doesn't seem like it's ever going to end.

We just finished the day with 25-30 inches of snow. Power was out for 12 hours. I spent most of the day outside shoveling out my house and four others and still need to shovel more. I'm feeling it now. My friend 15 is minutes north still has no power. My wife made coffee today on our wood stove and we used a cooler on the side porch for a frig. We are supposed to get another snow storm on tues or wed they say. Please make it go away. UNCLE (whine, whine, whine)

Wow lol, I thought I had it bad, the snow missed us. I actually got in a nice ride last weekend, it was about 35 but was a toasty 55 in the sun. Supposed to be in the 40's for the first time of the year next week lol.

Yah I know, my car has a bad thermostat and I haven't even bothered fixing it, just ride the train or ride the bike, live next door to a car wash so I can rinse off salt for free they are pretty cool about it.

But you do have to watch your corner exits because of the temps and debris and the torque comes on right now on these bikes (well, any twin).

We have so many large snow piles now. As soon as the sun sets, everything that melted turns to ice. We are getting 2-3 more inches on monday. Please, make it stop. :f

Simon, I'm getting cautious in my old age. I don't ride if the roads are full of snow, compacted snow, or ice. Usually, the roads clear (except for icy underpasses) before the snow elsewhere melts completely. But the salt and sand remain behind untill a good, strong rain falls in May or June, and intersections can be slippery. Caution rules the day in late winter or early spring. But with proper clothing and electric gear, I'll venture out if the roads are clear. (Didn't mean to rhyme--must be the Dr. Suess books I read to my nieces and nephew. :lol )

Your idea of switching to an enduro or dual-purpose tire seems a great idea. I haven't done that. Have you done this, or are you just asking? If you've done so, I've a few questions. How do they affect the handling? Do they grip well on snow that's been compacted by car tires? And do you switch back to sport tires during the summer months (well ... summer "month" in North Dakota)?

I don't mean to threadjack, so maybe we should start a thread on winter riding?

Hi Baxter - no, the image was from advrider.com (did you notice there's a link in my post? I'd be suprised if you can't find some snow stories on that forum! ) I don't ride in the winter myself...

yeah, I'm kinda thinkin to myself... aint no way that 650 is gonna work in the snow we get, not a chance. Even with studded tires, you'd be cutting through snow half as tall as the bike. Now... A little 250 with studded tires, thats a whole different story. But at that point, why not just rock the KLX250 all setup for snow with some mirrors and blinkers, a plate and some HUGE balls for even considering it.
