1000 Versys?

Postby Honinjsuz » Sun Nov 13, 2011 2:11 pm

Everybody see the 1000 cc Versys displayed at the Milan show? Cycleworld web site has pics, a little info. Liter seems too big to me- goes against the purpose of a LIGHT on-off road "adventure" bike. But hey, BMW sells thousands of 'em; Triumph, Yamaha, Suzuki have 'em.

Versys ARE NOT on-off's
They are ''high seat'' street bikes, just like tiger 1050 or multistradas

We dont care if they sell thousands of USELESS mega on-off's with weight more than 250kilos, these bikes are for posers
If you go off road, choose a bike lighter than 140 kilos, if not it will be useless

The new versys 1000 is a high seat Z1000
Less twisty(maybe) than versys 650, but MUCH MORE than the rest elephant on-off's
I was aspecting a 2 cylinder versys 1000, but for the rest of the people it will be better just like it is

I really don't care to sample the vibration coming from a 1,000cc Parallel twin. But the seating position I usually find the most comfortable on these "Poser Bikes". For me it's how the bike fits me, I don't give a rat's A#$ about what other people think, life is too short to worry about what other people label you because they don't like what you do.

vibration has got to be terrible on a 1000cc parralel twin. my buddy has an sv1000 and it feels like the whole bike is going to explode beneath you.

Τhe things are a little bit different in the US from Europe
Here we are leaving one up to other
The last thing we want, are big vehicles

Using a R1200GS to go down town, is useless, dont you think?

For After,
1-Let's stick to one bike at a time, If the 1000cc Versys fits, and works for me, I will buy it and enjoy it.
2-Never said anything about a GS, Physically too big for me, my brother (6'6") on the other hand loves the fit of it where as he can't even fit on my bike. Everyone has the freedom to chose what fit's them. You cannot say a GS is a bad around town bike, maybe for you it is, for other people, it's perfect. I can only say for myself, the GS is not good. I will not say it's a bad bike because it does not fit me. I've rode in Europe and Asia, it's not as different as you think.

3-Who is "we"?

The pic I googled showed it to be a vertical twin.

Could be a fake, I'm not good at telling the difference

They're putting the same engine in three different bikes. That seems to me like they're trying to please the masses without having to work too hard by doing things like developing a purpose built powerplant. The bigger Versys could have been such an amazing bike but now it seems more like a half-assed afterthought.

Yeah, but--- there is a recession, just as bad, maybe worse in Japan too. All the big 4 are down and only starting (maybe) to recover. All doing what they can. The overgrown dual sport market niche is one of the few bright spots. Look how Triumph is jumping in on BMW's dominance of it. Kawi wants/needs to be quick if they are to get a piece. In these times, it is interesting too, that Honda's "new" 250 is doing well in the USA, where Kaw's 250 pretty much dominated the (small) market.
