ER650 High Spec Race Bike..Help with upping the power...

Postby Herald Racing » Sun Dec 09, 2012 4:37 pm

Hi everybody, just signed up as a new member..My company has asked me to build a race bike for to compete in Thundersport Supertwins. I have been given a healthy budget to build a competative bike. The company had already bought a new 2012 machine to use as a start (new style frame). Due to a lack of parts available and a really short time to build the bike we are building the bike into a 2011 frame (old style). Below is the list of parts we are using for the chassis.

Chassis
52mm Gas moto gp forks MCT reworked
Race-Tek billet yokes
Wilbers bespoke shock, MCT revalved
Brembo forged 1 piece calipers, (disks yet to be sourced as im working on the off set)
Brembo Master cylinder 19/20
Dymag magnesium lightweight wheels 120/180
Versy's Swingarm, static rear caliper conversion, GP lifters on rear
Race technology digital dashWorks Connection clutch lever and perch
Race technology GPS data logger, suspension pot's, brake,throttle,wheel,coolant/oil temp sensors
Cadmatic rear sets
Samco hoses
Rizoma brake lever saver
Ram air kit, letter box type
Race Tek Factory Bars
Venhill Q/A throttle
Lightweight mini battery
Moto 2 Suter Fairing
Carbon ducati mudguard
RS250 Seat unit (Aoyoma style)

Engine
Home made air filter (kwak factory style)
Power Commander
Akrapovic full sys titanium
Quick shifter
Sigma slipper clutch

I have spoke to a few friends and have mixed ideas on what to do as regards tuning the engine. I want to get to a competative bhp, hopefully around 85/89. Can you guys give me some ideas of what has been done before?
I am unsure where to start with this really

I still have a front subframe to fabricate to hold the data logger/battery and ecu..ect....
Also just gotta sort a rear subframe to fit onto the 'old style' frame. The bike is in bits at the moment as ive getting the frame powder coated as soon as ive finished hacking it about.

I am unsure where to start with this really. The first test is penciled in for late January at our local test track.

I have a few more bits to get sorted..
brake discs
bigger rad
pistonsoil cooler kit
Various engine bits i guess.. subject to the spec we choose.. carillo rods, je pistons

Would appreaciate some ideas on the motor..

As soon as its back together ill post some pictures..

cheers Paul

i dont know to much (yet) but i do know someone will most likely say leave stock pistons as aftermarket ones are more heavy and heavier pistons move slower.

Just a start. Look under the performance upgrades section as well as others.

Since you'll be running race gas you can change the pistons and mill the head, giving you higher compression... Actually, let me give you a link to a guy in australia who got 88hp untuned with a stock airbox set-up. He did a good bit of motor work.
