UK Naked ER6 update

Postby monkeyseemonkeydo » Sun Feb 22, 2009 1:21 pm

Hey guys, first topic on here after being a fairly long-term member of ninja650.com.

Have recently made a few more modifications to my ER6n and the results are shown below. Comments positive, negative and indifferent welcome.

Mods are as follows: Scorpion Can, downpipes wrapped with fibreglass stuff, bellypan removed, UFO handguards, renthal-alike bars, Bikeit universal headlight unit, R&G crash bungs, home made fork protector/crash bungs on the front axle and home made swingarm spools/bungs, Oberon bar end mirrors, eBay special tailtidy, non standard black wheels with gold rim stripes... Think that's about it at the moment. Anyway, comments welcome :fro

like the hand guards and headlamps, looks real street fighter-ish. was thinking myself about trying shorter bars like that, but do not want sport bars.

I really like the black and gold, it makes it look real mean. May I ask what the wrappings are around the header?

Cheers

Hi Stryker, the wrapping is just a fibreglass heatproof exhaust wrap. It's mainly for aesthetics because the headers were starting to look a little tired and with the bellypan removed I thought I may as well try it. It's supposed to increase the velocity of the exhaust gasses as well and improve flow but I've also heard bad things about it making unwrapped areas stupidly hot... we'll see!

I was tempted to polish the rearsets to match the forks/bars and can but have been put off by the amount of time and effort I think it may require... painting/powdercoating black could be a possibility though!

Also... although I've only just put the light unit on, I'm kinda tempted to track down a light/fender unit from one of these to see how it looks on the bike- turn it into a HyperNinjaMotard. What do you reckon?!

I like it other than the headlights. It looks cross-eyed.
I like the heat wrap on the pipe. The black and gold looks great - the rear sets need to go or be painted.

The hand guards are kinda growing on me. At first I didnt like them. They would suck balls on an ER6-F. The only thing I would add if it was mine is an OEM seat cowl.

Lose the hand guards and get below the triple clip-on bars... Thats my opinion.. All and all looks good!

the ER6N in the states is new for 09... there are no 08's..... that being said I don't think there are OEM seat cowls for the 09's yet....

er-6n is the ugliest biker ever. It looks like a dirtbike with street tires.

Each to their own. I personally dislike the look of the faired Ninja 650/ER6f but there you go. I also dislike the front of the stock Er6n, hence why I've modified mine to something more to my tastes.

A dirtbike with street tyres is a supermoto... and supermoto's are awesome so I'll take that as a compliment  .

I've also now painted the rear sets black but haven't taken any more recent pics.

Looks great. Personally if I could have gotten the er6-n when I got my bike I would have. When I saw them in Germany I fell in love with them. I could go for the trifecta. The 650R, er6-n, and the Versys. Not sure how happy the wife would be though. At any rate the black rearsets really set the bike off. Nice job.

Ok, so in the absence of funds to buy a Hypermotard or Dorsoduro...

Image

I'm very much undecided. I bought the mudguard ages ago but never got round to trimming and modding it to fit. I haven't removed the stock mudguard mounts yet and am considering buying a second stock guard and trimming it down to only cover the rear part of the tyre like some of the current commercial motards come with.

I'm open to criticism or (less likely) positive views!
