***Important: Recall for 2009-2010 Ninja 650R!!!***

Mods, can you sticky this into each forum? People may not visit the General forum often enough. I received the letter today from Kawasaki for a recall to the 2009-2010 Ninja 650R (EX650C9F/L, CAF/L).

They warn not to ride the bike until this has been fixed!! It is truely a safety issue. I noticed it when I installed my aftermarket exhaust but thought it was due to me dropping the bike on that side. Please pass the word around to other owners so that we are all made aware of this.

I noticed that my brake pedal actually scrapes across my lower fairing. I thought that maybe it was due to the parked fall I had last year, but many times I tried to pull it back and it wouldn't budge. I thought that was it possible that I actually bent it in the fall, but after looking again when I got the recall letter today, I see no evidence that the brake pedal even hit the ground (no scuffs, no marks). And many times I have gone to hit the brake pedal and I hit the fairing with me foot (part outlined in red in 3rd pic) and I have to readjust to just get the pedal instead. May even ask the dealer to pull the brake pedal out a little more for me if I don't feel this new bracket will work.

Here are pics of what I mean.

Got mine in the mail yesterday. I have plenty of clearance, so I was a bit confused as to why until I saw this thread.

I'm curious to how they are fixing it.

I plan to continue riding mine before I get it fixed. Shouldn't have to rely on the rear brake on these bikes anyway.

Mine has plenty of clearance. My local stealership just closed their doors last week. I do not plan on getting this "fixed", ever, unless it somehow becomes unimaginably convenient.

i called in to my local dealer last week to book my 09 in for its 4000 mile service, when i asked the dealer about the recall he searched the kawasaki data base and found my full UK speck bike is also subject to the same recall? but kawasaki UK were sending out recall notices in a phased manor and i had not being sent mine yet?

the dealer has logged the work to be done at the service next monday which involves fitting a bracket to the lower faring pannel to keep it from moving and interfearing with the break pedal.

mine already has about 20mm clearance between the pedal and the lower fairing..

apparently all uk speck 09-10's are also subject to the recall.

i hope to get some photos of the fix next week if the dealer lets me..

Update,
The fix is not a new bracket for the lower fairing to hold it back but a new heel plate with a thickening at the bottom to ensure your foot slides over the lower pannel and onto the pedel.
