needing some help! throttle cutting out

Postby dwhite88 » Thu Apr 26, 2012 10:23 am

I was coming home from work last night and went to pass a car and the bike started cutting out when I laid on the throttle. It doesn't do it if I slowly apply the throttle, but if I give it a lot at once (1/2 throttle fairly quickly), the rpms take a dump and it's as if I am idling and if I hold the throttle, the power comes and goes erratically. Needless to say it was not a fun ride home. I did chang the spark plugs roughly 500 miles ago. The only mods I have are a delkevic exhaust (I've had this on for over a year and have seen no problems until now), BRP clutch springs, pair valve mod, speedo healer, and gearing (14 front, 45 rear). I am hoping it is something simple as I don't have a bunch of time to work on this!

Mine was doing the exact same thing before the motor went in my 650R. All i can say is be careful!!!!!!!!! My motor was doing it for about 1 week or so before it blew.

When you done the pair valve did you do something to the map sensor or is the hose to it damaged, or the wires to the tps.

Check your fuel pump pressure.Had a support break and pressure was low.Good enough for easy riding but leaned out on hard riding. Also electrical connections to the pump.

Also make sure you did not crimp a fuel line when putting the tank back on.

If none of that works, maybe Gary can do another group buy on some throttles? Motion Pro.

DONT! trust it! It's highly likely to do it again. Could be one of the things above. I've no idea what it is, but on another bike (BMW) it turned out to be a heat sensor (motor overheating sensor) and was found quickly by the diagnostic computer- after I nearly went crazy spending money and time tearing the bike apart to fix it myself.

I had the same problem about 6-8 months ago. The following day I took my bike out and it ran sweet, and has been running perfectly ever since. I hope you have the same luck I did.

So far so good, I did a 170 mile poker run on it last weekend and have put about 2 tanks of gas through it this week since then with no problems.
