PROJECTOR PROBLEM

Postby phoenix91 » Fri Oct 26, 2012 12:42 am

I just installed a couple of 35w 8000k hid projectors from sportbike lites. after running them a couple of times, i noticed the tinted film on my headlight lens was bubbling up and the lens was distorting slightly right in the center of focus of the beam. I removed the film, turned the lights on for a bit and couldn't really tell if it was still burning up the lens. The problem is that the focus of the beam narrows to such a small area on the lens and all the heat is directed there as well. Has anyone else had this problem? And is there a place where I can get a glass replacement lens instead of plastic? :|

Glass, I'd doubt it. Especially for Ninja 650.
You probably should remove the lights and try again. Not sure what to suggest personally. Sorry.

I removed a spacer so the lens sits farther back in the assembly. hopefully that will move it far enough that the focus point isn't right on the lens :|

Absolutely no problems now. I can now say I don't recommend tinted film with projectors, it catches too much heat and can damage the lens of the headlight assembly. I did take it a step further afterwards and made a beam cutoff plate out of an aluminum can. It's not entirely necessary as far as heat generated at a clear lens but i did notice it doesn't even get warm now. It also made a perfect cutoff line with a nice blue hue right on the edge and still maintained more than enough brightness where I needed it
